CAN A PHYSIO TELL NOW WHETHER I AM AT RISK FOR SHOULDER INJURY LATER?

There are definitely risk factors for getting shoulder pain in the future. An incorrectly aligned shoulder joint (which is a shallow, ball and socket type) can lead to excess wear and tear of the tendons of the muscles (rotator cuff) passing through this joint. Early signs include rounded shoulders, difficulty in placing the hand behind the back, diabetes etc.

CAN I HAVE TENNIS ELBOW WHEN I DON’T PLAY TENNIS?

Anyone (tennis player or not) can develop tennis elbow. This is pain on the outside of the elbow caused by overuse of the muscles that extend the wrist resulting in an excessive pull of the muscles on their attachment to the elbow bone. Treatment will focus on reducing the inflammation at the site and then correcting body biomechanics and altering lifestyle/raquet grip!

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN TENNIS ELBOW AND GOLFER’S ELBOW?

The opposite to tennis elbow, a golfer’s elbow is pain on the inside of the elbow joint and is caused by excessive flexion of the wrist eg with too many bicep curls! This causes inflammation on the bone where the muscles attach.
